Motorcycle icons in XXL: Ultimate Collector Motorcycles
TASCHEN Publishing | Collector's Edition of 1,000 numbered copies
A monumental collector's item for motorcycle lovers and design enthusiasts.
The XL double volume * Ultimate Collector Motorcycles* celebrates 100 of the most extraordinary motorcycles of all eras – from early pioneering machines like the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller to the futuristic 2020 Aston Martin AMB 001. The book showcases luxurious tourers, groundbreaking record-breakers, legendary Grand Prix racing machines, and extravagant one-offs whose technical finesse and design language continue to impress. Many of the featured models come from exclusive private collections and are rarely seen in public, including milestones such as the 1938 Brough Superior “Golden Dream” and the 1957 MV Agusta 500 4C ridden by world champion John Surtees.
This edition tells the stories behind these machines with exceptional depth and presents a wealth of photographic material taken specifically for this volume – supplemented by rare archival pieces, historical posters, and dynamic action photographs. The foreword is written by Jay Leno , himself a collector and passionate motorcycle enthusiast. Interviews with experts such as George Barber , Sammy Miller , Ben Walker , Paul d'Orléans , and Gordon McCall enrich the documentary quality of the book and offer insights into the culture, technology, and passion that make motorcycles so fascinating worldwide.
The authors:
The edition was conceived by Charlotte and Peter Fiell – two internationally renowned design historians who have published over 70 works on design, architecture, and visual culture. They have curated exhibitions for museums, collectors, auction houses, and international institutions, and have collaborated with TASCHEN for many years.
