Legendary photographs of David Bowie and the rise of an icon

A visual chronicle of the Ziggy Stardust era, encompassing music, art, and staging.

Mick Rock. The Rise of David Bowie. 1972–1973 is a powerful homage to the early 1970s and David Bowie's legendary rise to the persona of Ziggy Stardust. The photo book documents the moment when Bowie redefined music, identity, and performance, becoming one of pop culture's most influential icons.

The book was compiled in 2015 by Mick Rock, David Bowie's closest photographic collaborator during the Ziggy Star era. Mick Rock had direct access to Bowie and created one of the most important visual documentations in rock history.

The collection showcases iconic live recordings, studio portraits, cover photographs, backstage scenes, and glimpses into everyday life on tour. It connects the stage persona of Ziggy Stardust with the person behind the performance and makes the creative energy of that era visible.
