An opulent monument to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
The name Salvador Dalí is inextricably linked with Surrealism – his melting clocks, burning giraffes, and lobster telephones have long been icons of art history. But Dalí was more than just a painter: He was a visionary, provocateur, performer, and designer – a Gesamtkunstwerk with a mustache.
With this Collector's Edition, limited to 10,000 numbered copies in the magnificent BABY SUMO format, TASCHEN pays tribute to this dazzling genius with unprecedented depth and opulence. Over 1,000 pages in two magnificent volumes, a work that oscillates between madness and mastery unfolds.
The main volume (36.7 × 50 cm, 438 pages) presents Dalí's most important works in sensational size and detail—each brushstroke, every surreal vision is tangible. Gilded edges, fold-out pages, embossed chapter dividers, and a luxurious velvet cover in a clamshell box make this edition a work of art in itself.
The accompanying chronology volume (624 pages, 22 × 28.9 cm) documents Dalí's life – from his early days in Catalonia to Paris, Hollywood, and back to Figueres. With texts by Montse Aguer and Carme Ruiz (Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí), rare photographs, original sketches, letters, quotations, and reviews, it creates a multifaceted portrait of a man who merged art, life, and dreams.
This edition is not just a book, but a collector's item for all those who are passionate about art, eccentricity and the extraordinary.
“I have never tried to explain my paintings for the simple reason that I almost never understand them myself.” – Salvador Dalí
